Rodent control in a poultry farm
We will be discussing how the workers can take necessary measures to control the rodents on a farm. The first is using snap traps - you need to place a piece of bait to attract rodents and place it in the darker areas of rodent runways and do not place above the rodent’s nest but at a distance of one-two meters away from the entrance. It will be more effective if you can place multiple mouse traps placed at two to four meters apart. You should use the trap at regular intervals so that there will be no more of them. Another way to control them is to use glue boards. Place some glue at the center of the cardboard and keep it along the rodent runaway. While roaming they will get stuck and you can properly dispose of them. Sometimes frogs and lizards also get stuck and these boards are ineffective if there is a lot of dust at your place. You can opt for rodenticides which are acute poisons or anticoagulants that cause internal bleeding among the rodents, and ultimately they will die. Use them as single or multi-dose and include zinc sulfate, warfarin, bromadiolone, and cholecalciferol. But, you should use these chemicals with local safety and precautionary measures.
Prevention of rodents
By separating out edible wastes from non-edible garbage and proper handling of garbage, you can easily get rid of the rodents. Do not dispose of the edible garbage in an open area and always dispose of them in the drums. Destroy all the harbourages and nests found in the nearby fields, bases of the building and trees. Trim the grass properly and reduce the availability of water around the building to prevent the growth of rodents. Rodent control ( AlleyCatUSA/Rodent-Control ) can also be done by sealing the holes in mixing and feed storage rooms. Ensure that the pipes and drains are screened with sieves and the floors should be made of concrete so that they will be unable to infest on the floors. At the entrance of your farm, create a cemented guard of two feet from the ground having an outside curve for deterring the rodents to climb and entering the farm. This is an effective way of avoiding the entry of rodents.
