Millie Bobby Brown, who played the character of Enola Holmes, is an unforgettable portrayal of the troubled Eleven on "Stranger Things," showed her wise character beyond her years. In the film, Brown carried all those responsibilities again to have a complete blast doing it.
"Enola Holmes." is the best movie Netflix ( loudnewsnet.com/The-Best-Movie-Netflix ) is playing from the Young Adult novel series by Nancy Springer.
After years of being home-schooled in literature, history, science, and combat by her independent-minded mother, Enola discovers one-day dear old mum has gone missing.
Sherlock's younger sister Enola, stirring up trouble, solving mysteries, and carving out her place in wealthy Victorian England. Despite having a famous sibling, Enola is very much her person in how she goes about playing detective.
Emmy Award winner Harry Bradbeer brings an infectious energy to this stuffy setting when Enola breaks the fourth wall from the get-go with amusingly self-aware asides, a tactic he used in many episodes of "Fleabag."
Brown looks straight into the camera as she talks to us about riding a bicycle over rolling hills and across vast fields of flowers until she bites it and lands her face-first in the dirt.
From the script of Jack Throne, she notes that her name is spelled backward, and she and her unorthodox mother are precisely that as they wander about their country mansion doing whatever they please. But her abnormal mother suddenly disappears as she turns 16, leaving her to fend for herself with a series of complicated clues and a couple of disapproving brothers who have come to check on her. Sherlock(Henry Cavill) is the hunkiest Holmes ever, and establishmentarian fussbudget Mycroft (Sam Claflin) seems less interested in their mother's whereabouts than Enola hasn't been going to school. Although Sherlock appreciates his little sister's sharp mind and spry demeanor, Mycroft is mortified by how unkempt and uncouth she's become, and insist her on sending to school.
While traveling by train to London to hunt down her mum, she meets Viscount Lord Tewksbury, Marquess of Basilwether, an escaped teenager, just like Enola. And like her, he doesn't want to follow the right path laid by his family.
Although Giles Nuttgens has created London as a crowed cesspool of chaos with sharp contrast lush colors and warm sunshine of the countryside, this is where Enola Holmes begins to feel like two movies functioning side by side. She is still searching for her mother and, at the same time, trying to help Tewksbury from the dastardly forces.
Although Enola Holmes does run a bit too long, hopefully, Brown has continued to present the best movie Netflix in this pandemic.
