Important Techniques in Building Photography

3/28/2013

Light, composition and timing are important parameters for building photography. Both indoor and outdoor photography require planning and experimentation. However, following certain guidelines will make it easier to get flattering pictures of the interior and exterior of buildings. The architectural character of a building translates well through its details, as opposed to the vista of a building. Additionally, interiors lend distinctive elements to composition and impression. To add more creativity to your building photography, you can do the following.

    Photograph a doorway for interesting composition. The ‘details’ of a building can be interesting, than the building as a whole. You can shoot a captivating ‘door knob’. A common place item can come to life-like sculpture.

    Photograph empty rooms of a house. Rooms without people or many belongings make stark comment on a world left behind. Though it is not possible to empty the room completely, you can consider removing ‘clutter’. Select a primary subject and do not get that subject lost in too many secondary objects.

    Building photography looks better when it is taken in natural settings. Use long lenses in an office building to capture people in a more natural state.

    Use geometric composition to create realistic impressions. Experiment with camera angles and light to show a new world.

    Take several shots with different settings until you reach a satisfactory exposure. Overexpose your image to include more window light into the scene.

    Analyze the exteriors of the building, a day before the intended shoot. You need to be aware of what direction each side of the building faces. You will need a frontal shot of the building, if it is for a promotional campaign. If the building faces east, it would be better to shoot during the sun rise, as you can get more natural light. If the building faces the west, the ideal shoot would be in the evening. If the building faces north, you need to adjust the settings in your camera’s white balance to ‘shade’ and shoot either during sunrise or sunset.

    Take exposures of the building continuously as the sun rises or falls. Load the pictures into your computer and look through each one to find the image with the best lighting.

    When shooting in bright sunlight, a building will have some harsh shadows. Your flash unit will not be able to combat the harsh shadow, because of the size of the building. Instead of eliminating the ‘shadow’ factor, you can use the shadows to your advantage, by creating a highly contrasted photo.

The job of a building photographer is to look for interesting foregrounds. A great foreground could be a pond, statue, a busy street, or anything that is interesting visually. If you want that one-in-a-million shot, you need to be there for all of the moments when the weather naturally makes your subject stand out. You also need to have a tripod, which is a critical tool for building photography. Patience is the key for getting unique photos of buildings. The best ones are shot with a little extra effort.

How an Online Degree Program Can Offer Flexibility

3/28/2013

Being able to spend/spare a significant portion of every day to attend university classes is a luxury that many individuals simply cannot afford. For many, a degree is something they are taking whilst working at another job, raising a family, or pursuing other endeavors. There are also those who pursue degrees to upgrade their qualifications for an existing job, and therefore need to work around a full time schedule. For whatever reason, many individuals require flexible class schedules; an online degree program not only offers this, but at a lower cost than other on-campus programs.

With the expansion of communication technology and the proliferation of online resources, almost all sectors of society have embraced some amount of online presence. The education sector is definitely no exception; colleges and universities around the world are increasingly offering online degree programs for students that carry with them the same weight and recognition as an in-class degree. Online degrees offer a wide range of subjects at a wide range of levels (Associate, Bachelors, PhD, Masters, J.D), and although it is not the case for all universities, are usually offered at a lower cost. Tuition costs for an online degree program will ideally be less than on-campus course work given that the costs associated with in-class instruction are not present when taking the same courses online.

Apart from lower tuition costs, other costs associated with an on-campus degree are eliminated when taking courses online. For example, students will save money on commuting to and from a campus, as well as parking costs, and other supplies that one needs for classroom based learning. Another significant savings stems from not having to purchase an increasingly expensive set of textbooks, as much of the material is downloadable.

Lower costs are but one benefit of an online degree program; many people choose this option because they do not have to plan their lives around set class and study schedules. Rather than taking time away from ones other commitments, online coursework can be done when time allows; assignments can be completed at a more lenient pace, and are easily accessible. Examinations of most sorts will be arranged accordingly when the student feels that he/she may be able to best prepare; exams will generally be at a set time when the student has made the time to study. The immense advantage of this flexible assignment and examination scheduling is that the student is set up to succeed; no longer are other life commitments an insurmountable barrier to completing a degree.

An online degree program offers many advantages to those prospective students who are looking to advance their academic standing whilst maintaining their routine and fulfilling other commitments. Even for students who would otherwise have the time to devote to a full on-campus course load, might benefit greatly from the freedom an online degree offers. Whatever ones circumstance is, it is worth further investigation to see if online coursework is the right path to further education for you.

Keeping Your Family Protected with Health Insurance in California

3/26/2013

There are millions of men and women across the country without health insurance. While 87% of residents in California have some sort of health insurance that still leaves several million people without any type of health coverage.  This still results in over four million people without health insurance in California.

Many people do not consider getting health insurance. For some people, just living day to day and getting the bills paid, and supporting their family can seem stressful enough. For other people, getting health insurance in California might seem like one of those extras that they do not really need, until the moment they do. A health or medical emergency can occur at any time, and can severely affect a family’s finances, not to mention the emotional and physical well-being of everyone that will be affected.

For fifteen years, John had been working in the IT department for a company in San Diego. While he enjoyed his job his company did not provide John or his family with a health insurance plan. While he knew getting health insurance in California was important for himself, his wife, and his four children, he never got insurance. John was healthy, loved eating lots of vegetables, and fresh fruits and he also loved to exercise, especially if it involved running down by the beach. For anyone looking at John’s life from the outside, he seemed to be the picture perfect image of a healthy Californian.

Despite John’s healthy habits, sometimes an illness, accident or other health related incident can happen to the best of us. One day at work, John began to feel an uncomfortable pressure in his chest, but mistakenly thought it was just a little heart burn from his morning coffee and work stress. Unknowingly, John was not suffering from heartburn, but he was suffering from an acute heart attack. For a moment things looked harrowing. John was rushed to the emergency room and had to have emergency angioplasty surgery and several medical professionals eventually saved John’s life one December afternoon. While John had a long way to go physically, his family would soon learn the difficulties of a hospital visit without health insurance in California.

John was very lucky that someone from his office happened to have first aid training and was able to properly use the defibrillator that was on site. This probably helped save John’s life, but even with that, John’s heart attack cost his family financially. Without health insurance in California, John’s emergency room visit, his surgery, and the nitroglycerin he was prescribed cost John and his family almost fifty thousand dollars in medical expenses.

John and his family were lucky on one account, but the expense of John’s heart attack put much unneeded financial, as well as mental and emotional stress on John and his family. Before John never realized how much a medical emergency would cost his family without health insurance in California. But now, he makes sure to let everyone know to get health insurance and get covered because medical and health emergencies can happen to anyone.

There is no better place to live like California. The weather is beautiful, there are always lots of fun things to do, and there is beautiful real estate here. If you are looking to settle in the Los Angeles area, it can be tough to determine where to buy a home. There are many wonderful neighborhoods there, each with its own unique flavor to offer. Real estate in Bel Air consists mostly of beautiful homes on properties, large enough to offer some privacy and seclusion. Los Angeles can be a loud, busy city sometimes, so it is nice to have a home that allows you to get away from it all, and that is precisely what Bel Air has to offer. There are lots of trees and other large plants that afford you extra privacy, while giving your home a serene feeling. Children need space to run around and play; they need the chance to climb trees and play games in their own backyard without you having to worry for their safety. In a busy urban area like Los Angeles, this can be hard to find, but real estate in Bel Air is perfect for all of your children’s needs. There are few areas in Los Angeles that are safer, quieter, and more peaceful than Bel Air, and that is exactly what you need when you are raising a family of young children.

If you are planning on moving to the Los Angeles area, or if you already live in Los Angeles and looking for a home in a new neighborhood, make sure you check out the real estate Bel Air listings. Bel Air provides you with the best of both worlds – you are close to the excitement, shopping, restaurant scene, and nightlife found in the heart of Los Angeles, but you also get to experience the quiet, peaceful, green, tranquility characteristic of homes in Bel Air. The Importance of Healthy Foods and Meals

3/24/2013

Why does it seem like some people can watch what they eat, count calories, and stick to nutritious foods, but still can’t lose weight, while others eat junk food all the time but never seem to gain weight? This phenomenon is exactly why you should be eating healthy foods and meals for the purpose of being healthy on the inside, rather than just achieving a certain weight. If you avoid healthy food but still appear to be in shape, there are a number of reasons why you should still change your lifestyle. Looking healthy does not equate to being healthy, and being healthy is what is most important.

If you love to eat junk food on a regular basis but still manage to stay slim, does that mean that your body is actually healthy? Unfortunately it does not. Just because you don ot retain fat in an obvious way, it does not mean that your body is not feeling the effects of your less than ideal diet. Many people with slim bodies actually are carrying excess fat around their mid-section; it just is not as visible because they have an otherwise small frame. Some people who take in an excess of fat and sugar do not even really have a lot of fat on their bodies, but inside they are not looking so good. If you are not eating healthy foods and meals, you can count on some kind of health problem showing up at some point.

Eating healthy foods and meals is important for two reasons: the first is that if you are eating healthy foods and meals, odds are you avoiding the unhealthy ones; therefore, you are not creating any new problems in your body because of your diet. Secondly, healthy foods provide various benefits to your body, from fighting diseases to providing you with various vitamins and minerals that will boost your energy and immune system. Other than having to break the habit of eating junk food on a regular basis, there is simply no downside to eating healthy.

Eating junk food, on the other hand, can  cause problems that you cannot see from the outside. You might have a model body, but did you know that the excess sugar you are consuming can lead to diabetes? All of the trans-fats and saturated fats found in your favorite fast food meals can result in a host of health issues, including clogged arteries and heart disease, both of which are leading causes of death. Drinking caffeinated beverages without drinking enough water can lead to kidney problems, which are not only dangerous, but extremely painful as well. All of this can be hiding behind a fit, trim exterior! It might seem scary when you think about, but fortunately, it is not too late to change your lifestyle and begin incorporating healthy foods and meals.

Looking good is not always an indicator of internal wellness. Your body can be going through a number of health problems without you even knowing about it. By eating healthy foods and meals you will be reducing the need to worry about what is going on the inside of you, and even if you already look good, healthy food cannot hurt your appearance, so there is no risk involved!

The Effect of Laser Engraving on the Jewelry Industry

3/22/2013

Picture
Personalized items make beautiful gifts. You can make any gift personal with laser engraving. Jewelry is one example of a beautiful gift made more beautiful with the personal touch of this new form of engraving.

Engraving has a long history. In the past, people engraved to show their wealth, or to honor the gods or the kings. They engraved on stone to make statues and monuments, and they engraved faces in cameo on jewelry. They engraved precious stones to make seals and other ornaments. Animal horns and bones were used to make household objects, and because of the pliability, they could be engraved in lovely, artistic fashion.  Firearms, too, were regularly engraved with beautiful scenes. Engraving was done throughout history for the same reason as it is done today - to make everyday objects more beautiful and personal. The difference today is now we use laser engraving instead of doing it by hand.

Hand engraving was certainly a skilled art. The early engravers had to have skills, imagination, a steady hand and a lot of patience. They worked their art on a small canvas, one that was not always of uniform size or thickness, or did not lie conveniently flat. The finished work had to be balanced on the item also, so that it looked nice. Now, the advantages of laser engraving are that it is far more versatile and quick to do.

Before laser engraving, people used a variety of techniques, beginning with hand engraving, or push engraving, to carve out the design and push away the unwanted material. A cutting tool or a chisel was the choice instrument. Cuts had to be smoothed over, burnished and polished after the engraving was completed. Other tools such as vice grips and engravers blocks also had to be employed. The engraver had to hold the block with one hand and push the tool with the other. However after the war era, engraving done  in this method started to decline, largely because as the populations began to spread out of the small towns and into cities and suburbs, people became less interested in finding an engraver when there was not one readily available. Fewer people were choosing this as an apprenticeship trade.

Machine engraving became more popular and more readily available. One reason that hand engraving became rarer, was the change in the type of goods produced. Materials changed with mass production. Gold and silver was no longer the metal of choice, replaced with harder metals, alloys and steels. These were not so easy to hand engrave, although they could be machine, or laser engraved.

Laser engraving has made machine engraving even better. It is especially appropriate for jewelry. Lasers and computers can make the engravings so much more precise than other methods. The machinery needed is smaller and can be put into any kind of business. It can also be very specialized, allowing engravings to be put in places where it was once very difficult, such as the inside of a ring, or the back of a watch. Even a mixed curved-flat surface can be engraved quite easily. Jewelry can be designed and decorated using lasers, allowing for a very personal, custom-made piece that the wearer will treasure forever.

Creative Training in the Workplace

3/20/2013

Picture
Everyone hears about thinking outside of the box. It can be a tough thing to do: after all, our modes of thought are fairly well ingrained when we enter the workplace, and opening up new channels and ways of thinking may be a hard task for some people. This is not a bad thing. For many, a job may not need much of creativity. But for industries, where a good idea is worth ten bad ones (worth, but may not justify), being able to think outside of the box will help a career go further. Fortunately, creative training is available for businesses and employees that need new ways to think about and approach any problem at hand.

Creative training does not just mean training to be creative; it is also a way to define how one is trained. We have all seen the workplace videos that help us become better at our jobs. Whether we have to sit down for two hours at work or watch at our own time, there is one thing in common: sleep. Many of these videos are chalk-full of information but do not present the material in an engaging manner. Think about cooking shows and the attractive hosts that teach you a recipe. The right amount of charisma, humour and attraction can make or break any cooking show. That is beside the point. People become better cooks when they are entertained while being taught how to complete a recipe.

There are some subjects that are really hard to teach if every person in the audience cannot fully engage with the material. One product of creative training is the ability to lead a group in learning that ensures engagement with and absorption of the material presented. For better-trained employees with higher morale and ethics, creative training should be used in as many workplaces possible. The benefits are numerous while the flaws are few.

Employee moral in any workplace can be raised with creative training. When learning how to properly cook chicken in a rotisserie grill, would you rather watch a thirty-minute long video hosted by an uncharismatic corporate chef, or would you rather be taught by Chef Gordon Ramsey? The answer is obvious because Ramsey would make you laugh while learning how to spit the chicken for the rotisserie. Mass training, like team building exercises, is better helped with charismatic and creative hosts than with a deadpan accountant or manager. But, again, it is not about just the person who is teaching, but is about how it is being taught.

Thinking outside the box is what Mad Men is all about (well, that and a tragic character). Don Draper shows the advertising industry, what it is like to be on top of popular culture while remaining classy. Creative training comes from advances in culture, popular or not, and if the thinkers do not take heed of what is new and exciting, someone else, possibly a rival, will.

Professionals who take care to attend creative training on a regular basis are able to stay on top of their game, teach their teammates or coworkers in an engaging way and offer new solutions to problems within the business.

How to Write a CV for a Doctor’s Position

3/8/2013

Your Curriculum Vitae (CV) is the first and foremost chance to make an impression on a potential employer. A well structured and detailed CV will fetch you an interview call. Your CV needs to be concise and clear and should highlight your skills, expertise and value. In this article, we will discuss how to write a CV if you are a doctor by profession.
The following are the sections that are to be included in the CV:

    Contact information: The first aspect when writing curriculum vitae is to include the contact information like name, home address, work address, telephone number and e-mail id.

    Personal information: In this section, you should include your date of birth, place of birth, citizenship or visa status and the corresponding address of residence.

    Education: This is an important section because it indicates your qualification and specialization. Your educational details should start with the latest obtained degree followed by your schooling information. If you are a smart and a bright student, it will be impressive if you add your grade points or credit scores in percentage.

    Honors and Awards: Details of awards and scholarships received, and the accomplishments made should be mentioned in your curriculum vitae. It is also necessary to include the name of the authority or organization that has honored you, as it will add more value to your CV. In this example of a doctor’s CV, it would be “the British medical association” etc. This.

    Professional memberships:  If you have a professional membership in any reputed organization or society, this is the section to mention all those details.

    Employment: In this section of the CV, you should mention the details of  your previous
    Employers
    Position held/Designation
    Primary duties and responsibilities
    Reporting authority
    Duration of employment
This will help you to highlight your experience and knowledge in the particular field in which you are applying for a job

    Publications: The American Medical Association lists some guidelines on how to list the publications. You can include the details of the articles and books written, and the online publications made.

    Presentations: In this section of the CV, you can include the details of all the presentations made and conferences or seminars attended.

    Professional Reference: While writing a CV, it is important to mention the contact references for at least two people, whom the recruiter can contact, if he is looking for a testimonial. Before including the names, it is essential to inform your references in prior to make them aware of the deed and proceedings.

A doctor will require a CV while applying for employment, grants and research proposals. . It is important for them to maintain a good structure in the CV. A doctor might submit a CV instead of a resume when applying to work in a hospital outside the United States, usually for a teaching job or while applying for grants. A doctor’s curriculum vitae should support everything statement made in the CV with proper evidences and proof. In addition, it is important to be specific about your skills and areas of expertise and avoid generic statements that are vague. Once you have finished drafting your curriculum vitae, you can show it to a friend and ask him to review the draft. It is also wiser to consult a professor as he/she will know what potential employers are looking for. If you need a CV that includes all the points as discussed above, you can consult professional CV writers.

How Revenue Cycle Management Influences a Health Care Provider’s Business Operations

3/7/2013

Health care is evolving rapidly. The payment systems, treatment protocols, clinical and documentation rules are transforming at a rapid pace. In order to maintain maximum efficiency and profitability amidst these sweeping changes, health care providers need to have access to the most upto date tools and processes. Revenue cycle management provides these indispensable components.

Revenue cycle management (RCM) typically refers to the entire medical billing process, from the beginning to the end. This term is often used in the health care sector, when performed by a third party medical billing company. RCM is a complete data capture and error mitigation philosophy influencing a health care provider’s business operations. RCM systems monitor administrative and clinical components that contribute to the collection and management of patient service data.

Revenue cycle plays an important role in maximizing insurance reimbursements by increasing the payments. It is vital for the financial stability of say, a hospital to have a process in place for each phase of the revenue cycle. The profitability of a health care unit entirely depends on its revenue cycle. A well-managed revenue cycle protects the returns and accelerates cash flow.

Managing a revenue cycle is not an easy task and requires constant attention. Each phase of the revenue cycle – right from the moment a patient is scheduled till the insurance reimbursement to the health care unit is being made is important, in maximizing insurance reimbursements. An effective RCM will reduce the burden on the billing staff, keep the administrative costs down and help in maintaining a good rapport with the patients. Some of the ways in which you can make RCM more effective are mentioned below:

    Insurance Verification

Revenue cycle begins prior to patient’s arrival to the health care unit. Once an appointment is given to the patient, the patient’s insurance information is verified. As the information in insurances are mutable, it is important to verify the patient’s claim eligibility, every time the services are provided. The benefits of verifying the insurance details of the patients are:

    Reduced claim denials due to invalid or incorrect information

    Verify for medical services coverage.

    Obtain information about the patient’s co-pay, co-insurance and deductible.

    Upfront Collections

Notifying the patients prior to their arrival on what is their estimated responsibility, will make them aware that payment is required prior to availing the services.. Rather than waiting till the collection stage of the revenue cycle, health care units should discuss the financial issues and collect the payment immediately following an admission process Financial counseling will also help to determine a patient’s eligibility for public assistance or other payment plans, which will improve collection efforts and minimize billing workload.

    Coding Clean Claims

Submitting an error free claim is the only way to guarantee correct payment at the first time. A ‘clean claim’ is one that is accurately completed, in accordance to the insurance companies and billing guidelines of the government. The patient information should be accurate to prevent any denials from the insurance companies.

    Handling Denials

Insurance companies are required to pay the claim or provide a denial within 30 days of receipt of a claim. Claims which are not processed within 30 days are subject to interest penalties. Taking a proactive approach in handling denials will improve accounts receivables substantially.

    Payment Review

The final step in managing the revenue cycle is reviewing payments for its accuracy. Make sure you are receiving the full insurance payment as per the eligibility of the patients. On some occasions, you may receive lower reimbursements due to a coding mistake or accounting mistakes by the insurance companies. Inconsistencies, if any, should be addressed to the insurance companies immediately.
